Myrna Y. Padilla is the Founder and President of Mynd Consulting. Mynd Consulting's mission is to help stop the brain drain of our best and brightest people particularly in Mindanao. To accomplish this, she has created a new type of outsourcing business model designed to afford the highest possible wages for her employees while delivering value and competitive pricing for her overseas clients.

Mrs. Padilla is also the convener and founder of the Mindanao Hong Kong Workers Federation. One of the largest federations of its kind in the world with 12 associations involved. As a former OFW herself, she is intimately aware of the difficulties and hardships that people face. (Click here for her full Bio.)

Myrna grew up in a little Village in Loay, Bohol. She grew up in a poor family. Her Mother and Father have six Children and Myrna is the eldest. If you visit the place where she was born, the old people there still remember her as a child and, if you ask them, they will tell you stories of when she was young. They have not forgotten her.

In her childhood days, she would go alone to the sea after school and dive in the deep dark waters to gather seaweeds, seashells and fishes. At the age of eight, this brave little dark skinned girl was diving in the deep sea without company. She would sell seaweeds so she could buy pen and paper for school. The seashells and fishes were for food.

The people of Myrna's village will tell you that, at the age of nine, she would debate with the wise men in the village. She was admired for her strong drive and determination, but in the family she is tagged as a hard-headed child because she always wants clarification before agreeing on something. In spite of her attitude as a child, her parents were very proud of her because of her achievements. Myrna always wants to work hard for her family and extend help to others.

People may wonder why Myrna became a MinFed (Mindanao Federation) Chairman even though she was not born in Mindanao. Her parents are Mindanaoans. They are from Davao and it just happened that they moved to Bohol after the Japanese war. There is no question that Myrna's heart is with the Mindanao Federation and the people associated with it. In the late 1998, Myrna started MinFed with five people and served as the interim President. After one year she was elected Chairman of MinFed and no one defeated her chairmanship until she decided to resign in 2006.

She resigned from her position with MinFed, because she faced throat and thyroid surgery. She wanted to have that surgery at home in the Philippines. For Myrna, it was a failure for her when she thought of having an illness but, because of the encouragement from all the people who love her, she stood up and stood still without fear. Facing the reality that, like her diving in the deep sea after sunset, we all face life's uncertainties.

After a successful surgery, she decided not to come back to Hong Kong. She came to realize that she should look after her health. After all, health is wealth.

She, then, decided to start an IT related business.

How did you get the business? Are you an IT expert or Computer Engineer? These are the questions asked by most of the people who knew Myrna.

No, I am not an IT expert nor Computer Engineer. I am a just an OFW, a Founder and convener of the Mindanao Federation. My experience in the leadership of MinFed taught me to motivate myself and to know my weaknesses. It taught me to listen and understand the people's needs. It taught me a lot of lessons in Building a Team.

In 2000, Myrna acquired her first computer and she used the technology to further help the goals of the Mindanao Federation. Over the next six years, she studied and applied the technology in her free time. In the beginning, she often felt more fear of the technology than she did when diving in the sea alone. Despite the fear, she continued doing research on the internet, gathering knowledge and understanding.

She said, "I slowly began to grasp the concepts behind social computing, virtual offices, outsourcing and software development. As an OFW, I saw the technology from a very different perspective than most. I saw a way for a person to work abroad without leaving home, without the heartbreak of leaving their family and without contributing to the brain drain that sees the best and the brightest of our people leaving the Philippines."

Using the internet, she began networking with others in the social computing and virtual office space. She spent hours in emails discussing the needs and hopes of the Philippine people. As she has done since she was a child, she refused to stop a discussion until she had clarification. In the process, she impressed a number of individuals in the IT industry with her honesty and integrity.

This, in turn, led to the formation of an IT consulting business and that is Mynd Consulting. An enterprise with one mission and that is, to be successful so that they may reach back and help others who are less fortunate than themselves.

Mynd Consulting Company now employs the best and brightest Software Developers, Software Testers, Engineers, and a small Admin staff. Those of you who know Myrna will not be surprised to learn that she has already started contributing back to the community. Recently the company purchased school supplies for children in a school system in Kidapawan. She has joined the Rotary Club with the goal of educating all who will listen to the issues of the OFW. She continues to work and support Mindanao Federations' Projects as a Board of Trustee and Coordinator of MinFed in Philippines.

Myrna believed that our work in serving our people not only enriches and empowers those who volunteer, but also benefits us all by helping to build better citizens and thus, a better Country.

About the Mindanao Federation

MinFed is a politically active advocate of the Philippine worker and seeks to enrich the social, economic, cultural and political perspectives of the OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker). The OFW needs to be awakened to the issues associated with Materialism, Dependency and the Fatalism that follows from the lost hopes created by their economic situation and worsened by the separation from family and loved ones. As part of this effort, the Mynd Team designed and built a website using ThePort Network's Social Media Suite to create a Filipino Online Community. This community allows migrant workers to connect with each other from all over the world. It is called www.bangonfilipino.com. Please feel free to visit and contribute.
